Kellogg library announces new director

KELLOGG — One of the staples of what makes a strong community is its library, and what makes a strong library is the person who runs it.
As of March 1, that person for the Kellogg Public Library is new Director Danelle J. Boylan.
Boylan, 30, moved to the Silver Valley in the summer of 2015 from Santa Fe, N.M., to work as a Mercury Analyst at SVL Analytical. She has obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Northern New Mexico College; and while attending college, she spent some time volunteering with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).
After a year of employment at SVL, Boylan wished to take a break from work and focus on her family.
“During my break from employment, I pursued personal hobbies,” Boylan said. “My family and I participated in various sports, competed in local races/triathlons; my favorite race was participating in the Seattle to Portland bike race, which consisted of 203 miles in two days!”
It was then in April 2018 when Boylan was hired on as a “library helper” because of her passion for reading and books. Once she got the hang of things, she then applied for the director position and was accepted by the Kellogg Public Library Board of Trustees.
Now on the job, Boylan has big plans for the little library in uptown Kellogg.
“I hope to insert the idea that the library is not a place with dusty shelves filled with old books that’s ran by a crotchety old hag demanding silence,” she said. “It’s actually a great place not only to check out books, but for members of the community to utilize many resources that we offer such as free music downloads, audio books available online, free access to publications, learn a new language for free and much more. I want to create awareness for the incredible resources that are free and available to patrons.”
Boylan also wants to change the image of the library by implementing community focused programs such as STEM projects for children and computer classes for adults. Children’s programs will be available this summer.
With just over a week in the books, she is hopeful that she can accomplish all of these goals with the help of the community and co-workers.
“Things have been great so far,” she said. “I am surrounded by knowledgeable and supportive individuals that offer a helping hand when needed. I enjoy collaborating with other libraries and working as a team.”
