Wanted felon taken into custody following pursuit

OSBURN – A wanted felon was taken into custody last week after a partial vehicle pursuit that involved a Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office deputy crashing their vehicle.

SCSO reports that the sage began in Kellogg on March 4 at 2:44 p.m. when Kellogg Police was dispatched to a reported intoxicated driver (possibly driving with children in the vehicle) at the Gondolier gas station in Kellogg. The vehicle was described as a white Toyota van with Washington plates.

An SCSO Deputy responded to the scene and was unable to locate a vehicle matching the description given.

A short time later however, the deputy observed the white van with Washington plates exit I-90 eastbound at milepost 57.

At that time, Osburn Police Officers and Idaho State Police troopers joined in with attempting to locate the van in the Osburn.

As law enforcement canvassed the area, an SCSO deputy located the van at the dead end of Two Mile Road in Osburn. As the deputy activated their emergency lights, the minivan charged toward the deputy’s vehicle- causing the deputy to retreat in reverse for approximately 300 feet before losing control, crashing into a tree and immobilizing the vehicle.

As the van continued down Two Mile Road, Osburn Police Chief Darell Braaten intercepted it near the bottom of the road and began to follow.

The van then turned west onto I-90 at milepost 57 and bounced off a jersey barrier, but continued traveling west.

It is believed that this momentary collision with the jersey barrier was caused by the two occupants switching seats as the vehicle was in motion.

“As they came around the corner, I watched them hit the guard rail- which game me the probable cause to stop them,” Braaten said.

Chief Braaten and an ISP trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at milepost 55, which lead to the arrest of the driver and passenger.

The driver was identified as Jason Larcom, 48, of Lake Stevens, Washington and has an outstanding felony warrant out for his arrest. In addition to being a fugitive from justice, Larcom is also being charged for aggravated assault (felony), reckless driving (misdemeanor) and resisting and/or obstructing on officer (misdemeanor).

The passenger, Riannah Rammage, 38, Marysville, Washington was initially only arrested for reckless driving and resisting and/or obstructing on officer, but received additional drug related charges after heroin was found on her person as she was booked into the Shoshone County Jail.

Rammage’s new charges include possession of a schedule I substance- heroin (felony), conveyance of a controlled substance into the jail (felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (misdemeanor).

The couple are believed to have been on their way from Washington to Montana.

“Thankfully, there were no children in the vehicle as initially reported to law enforcement,” SCSO Undersheriff Holly Lindsey said in a news release.

The deputy who’s vehicle was immobilized received no injuries as a result of the incident.

All things considered, Chief Braaten was pleased with how the situation ended and how all the involved agencies worked together.

“It turned out great, he said. “All the agencies worked well together and thats what it takes to get the job done- that working relationship is what we need.”
