Competitive games, high-flying fun at all-star night
MULLAN — It was a night to remember as the District I Class of 2019 All-Stars took to the hardwood at the Mullan Pavilion for a night of competitive and entertaining fun.
The girls game was as physical an affair as any regular season game as the ladies played a competitive back and forth game.
The boys had more of an NBA All-Star Game feel as both teams seemed happy to let the other shine, but got incredibly competitive in crunch time.
“This was one of our best all-star nights yet,” Mullan athletic director Stetson Spooner said. “Both of the games were competitive, the kids came out, had fun, and put on a show.”
That show was highlighted by Lakeside’s Tommia Pakootas’ win in the 3-point shooting competition over Wallace’s Erik Brackebusch.
The always popular slam dunk competition didn’t disappoint either as multiple dunkers went to work, including Wallace’s own Zach Welch, but it was Kale Edwards of Coeur d’Alene High School who took home the top prize after unleashing a wicked 360º dunk that pushed the noise levels inside the Pavilion to their max.
Welch was also named MVP of the boys game after scoring 18 points, including the first 14 points of the game for the winning East Team.
Overall 40 points were scored by local players in the boys’ game.
In the girls’ game it was Kellogg’s Emma Bristow who led her squad in scoring, but the West used a second half surge to put away Bristow and the East All-Stars.
“This is just such a fun environment for the kids, the fans, and this community,” Spooner said. “We look forward to this event every year and I think it will be tough to top this one next year.”
Timberlake’s Karrisa Willis led all scorers with 18 points and took home MVP honors for the girls’ game.
