KELLOGG — Last month Silver Mountain announced that CMR Lands LLC had acquired 49º North Mountain Resort near Chewelah, Wash.

CMR Lands LLC is the same ownership group who, under Tryg Fortun, purchased Silver Mountain a few years ago.

49° North Mountain Resort is a 2,250-acre ski resort with seven lifts, two summits, three basins and Nordic system located in the Colville National Forest near Chewelah.

For Silver Valley residents, the purchase creates the ability to expand their skiing horizons, which is exactly what Silver Mountain General Manager Jeff Colburn hopes folks will do.

“This gives people the opportunity to chase the powder,” Colburn said. “In today’s landscape, skiing is changing, this gives us an opportunity to have a great partner, it helps our passholders, it helps their pass holders. People will be able to see who has the better snow on a day-to-day basis.”

49º North General Manager John Eminger echoed a lot of Colburn’s thoughts in a press release last month.

A new discounted combo 49° North and Silver Mountain pass that will allow passholders to ski at either resort is debuting this week with an introductory price of $459 for adults and $329 for youth, and can be purchased at either mountain.

“We think this is a great value as we are essentially adding an entirely new mountain to a normal season pass,” Eminger said. “For the storm riders, it offers a seven-day-a-week option and allows dual pass holders to follow the snow and great conditions. We think this will be a great product for our Spokane guests who can go an hour (in) either direction for a great snow experience.”

49° North and Silver Mountain resorts will also be adding additional benefits to its respective season passes for those who choose to only ski at one resort.

Both resorts will maintain its own management, but will share expertise, equipment and ideas, and work in tandem.

“I think it’s going to be a good marriage,” Colburn said. “We’ll share as much as we can and hopefully we can save each other some money.”

Silver Mountain and 49º North are already selling season passes for next winter. For more information, visit www.ski49n.com or www.silvermt.com.
