KELLOGG — The Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce is looking to spruce up their image, and part of that process involves designing a brand-new logo.

According to Benjamin Powell, one of 12 community members on the SVCC marketing committee, the decision to rebrand was made in January of this year. The chamber wished to create a newer image that better conveyed their marketing strategy for the Silver Valley.

“Our initial task was the full integration of our branding with our marketing strategy,” Powell said. “Upon examining both, our branding and our marketing efforts, we decided, as a team, to conduct a full rebrand and restructure of our overall plan.”

This process first began with the development of the chamber’s Values, Vision and Mission:

Values: Community Partnership, Sustainable Growth, Innovative Leadership, Recreational Accessibility, Environmental Stewardship, Economic Development, Educational Opportunity

Vision: “We are a vibrant mountain community with a colorful history, cultivating a thriving economy and endless outdoor adventure.”

Mission: “Through collaboration, engagement, and education, we nurture business development, community growth, and tourism.”

These aspects were chosen with the purpose of creating a brand that would improve the relationship between the community, Silver Valley and the Chamber of Commerce. It is also meant to instill and encourage behavioral guidelines, ensuring that employees and community members who live by these core objectives will set themselves, the Chamber and the Silver Valley up for success.

The current logo was created in 2015, so it has been some time since a fresh coat of paint was slapped on, so to speak.

In an effort to get the community involved with the rebrand, SVCC is asking for anyone and everyone to participate in their logo design competition.

“Our hope is that the community members of the Silver Valley will grab ahold of and relate to our vision, mission and values as their own,” Powell said. “This is the beginning of our effort to establish that relationship.”

The winner of the competition will receive a “Breakfast for Two” (valued at $30) voucher, a one night stay at Silver Mountain, apparel with the logo on it and their name announced at the logo unveiling at the Fourth of July Community Market.

The contest will run through June 1 and submissions should adhere to the following guidelines:

1) Both digital and hand drawn submissions will be accepted.

2) Design should be an original image-based logo that uses imagery consistent with the Silver Valley.

3) Use of orange and blue/gray coloring are preferred.

4) “Silver Valley Idaho” is the only text on the logo design.

5) Must be simple and uncluttered, optimized for products (shirts, hats, stickers, etc.).

Beyond these guidelines, Powell asked contestants to be creative.

“Please utilize fonts that are easy to read,” he said. “Please submit your designs either in person at the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce or email to director@silvervalleychamber.com. We look forward to seeing your creative ideas!”
