Kellogg's Allred grabs IML all-league soccer honors

KELLOGG — The Kellogg Soccer team recently wrapped up its 2019 season, and while the season didn’t quite reach the heights that they had hoped for and expected, Lora Allred managed to keep the ship upright.
Allred was named to Intermountain All-League team following the campaign and for good reason.
Soccer can be a game of inches, and for the Wildcats those inches seemed to work against them, but under Allred’s leadership they never panicked or lost heart.
“It can be tough, especially when you’re losing 1-0 or 2-1,” Kellogg soccer coach Craig Petersen said. “Lora was always the one out there making games a lot more competitive than they should have been at times.”
For Allred, her senior year saw her as the team’s leading goal scorer and primary option at both ends of the field.
A volatile blend of blazing speed and strategic thinking, Allred always seemed to find herself in the middle of the action, doing everything she could to help her teammates out.
In fact, being a part of this team was Allred’s favorite part of the season.
“I love interacting with the girls,” Allred said. “Soccer was a great group to be with, when we struggle we always come together as a team.”
Allred wasn’t just making appearances on the pitch either, she somehow found time to run a full cross country schedule for Kellogg this year as well and is on track to being a rare four-sport athlete.
Allred, who is also a member of Petersen’s (a retired Marine Corps Major) Marine Corps JROTC program at the high school, had nothing but good things to say of her coach and vice versa.
“I love playing for Major,” Allred said. “You can tell that he really cares about the people he coaches, not just during the games, but also individually as a person and a student.”
Petersen has been coaching soccer for some time and he can recognize when he sees an athlete that has something special about them.
“You know when a kid loves what they’re doing,” Petersen said. “And you could tell that Lora loved playing soccer. By any stretch, she carried our team this season. When other coaches are coming up and telling you how they couldn’t get around Lora and they game-planned to try and keep her as far away as possible, you know you have a special player out there.”
The Wildcats were just a couple goals from being the third seed at their district tournament and in reality, probably just a couple goals away from their first trip to the State Tournament.
