Silver Hills cancels classes due to illness related absences
OSBURN — The Wallace School District reported on Monday that classes at Silver Hills Elementary will be canceled today and Wednesday due to a high number of students and staff falling ill.
No specifics regarding the low attendance numbers were provided, but it is believed that the illnesses behind the cancellations are the flu and strep throat.
School district administrators in our region work closely with the Panhandle Health District to determine when closures are needed. PHD starts monitoring schools when their illness related absences reach 8% of the school’s total enrollment and recommend a closure if they go above 30% for three days in a row.
As of Monday night, classes at Wallace Jr./Sr. High School and all other schools in the Silver Valley will continue as usual.
The News-press will report any future closures if it arises.
