WALLACE — The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reports that Deputy Ben Abshire and his K-9 partner, Deputy Lulu, have been working extra hard for the citizens of Shoshone County during the month of September.

They recently have been teaming up with Probation and Parole Officers on home compliance checks, as well as assisting local city police departments. The following are a few of the calls the duo have been involved in during the month of September:

- Kellogg police requested the assistance of Dep. Lulu on a motorist assist call where the RV was illegally parked on Hill Street. Dep. Lulu alerted to the vehicle resulting in the arrest of the suspect for possession of methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia.

- A Shoshone County Deputy, Dep. Stevenson, initiated a traffic stop on Cameron Avenue in Kellogg. After requesting the assistance of Dep. Lulu, she alerted to the vehicle, and as a result, suspected heroin was seized, as well as associated paraphernalia.

- While Dep. Abshire and Dep. Lulu were conducing follow-up on a case, they assisted Probation and Parole with a compliance check on Brown Street in Kellogg. As a result, the suspect, Mysti Lange, 42, Kellogg, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia.

- While Dep. Abshire and Dep. Lulu were conducting follow-up on a case, they assisted Probation and Parole with a compliance check on west Mullan Avenue in Kellogg. As a result, the suspect, Steven Fetter, 56, Kellogg, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia.

- Shoshone County Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up at the Gondolier in Kellogg. Upon arrival, two subjects were observed arguing and appeared to be extremely agitated. After an initial investigation, both parties, William S. Martin, 36, Arlington, Wash., and Kindra Mejia, 33, residence unknown, were interviewed and later arrested for possession of methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia.

- Dep. Abshire and Dep. Lulu conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessive speed around the 100 block of Main in Wardner. The traffic stop ended in the arrest of a male subject, Donne Delong, 60, Spirit Lake, who had two outstanding felony warrants for drugs out of New Mexico.

- Dep. Abshire and Dep. Lulu also have a few pending felony drug cases out of the city of Smelterville; however, in order to protect the integrity of those investigations, the details will be released at a later date.

It’s been over a year now since Abshire and his Labrador named Lulu, got their Idaho State Certification and started officially working together.

The young and energetic Lulu was trained by Pacific Coast K-9 in Custer, Wash., as a drug detection K-9. It was there that she learned how to detect four major controlled substances: marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA (ecstasy).
