KELLOGG — A recent rash of vandalism has much of the uptown Kellogg community concerned.

Two different incidents involving graffiti occurred since last weekend.

The first incident happened either late Friday night or early Saturday morning at the Dave Smith Motors Tint Shop off Division Street and involved the defacing of a truck that was parked at the shop.

The second incident occurred on early Monday morning as several buildings in the uptown Kellogg area were spray painted with various words and phrases such as, “join the clan” and “dabs, cigs, weed” among others.

Jessica Cochrane, the owner of Knotty Ridge Printing in uptown Kellogg, was disturbed and enraged by the vandalism, especially in light of all of the work being done to revitalize the uptown area.

“This breaks my heart to see someone carelessly vandalizing our hometown,” Cochrane said. “Even more so as we the community are trying so hard to regrow and restore our uptown.”

At this moment, the Kellogg Police Department isn’t ruling out the possibility that these events could be unrelated, but given the same silver color of the paint, verbiage, and then poor quality of paint penmanship all seem to point to a high possibility of these crimes being related.

KPD was able to get some security camera footage of the crimes as they were being committed in uptown Kellogg, but the infrared picture doesn’t give a clear picture of the perpetrator.

“The images we have are not terribly clear, so we are going to need the community’s help on this one,” said KPD Chief Dave Wuolle.

The video footage has been posted and is available on the Kellogg Police Department Facebook page.

If anyone has a tip or information concerning who may have committed these crimes, please contact the Kellogg Police Department at 208-786-9131.
