| October 17, 2019 11:12 AM

Beloved brother, father, and grandfather, Rudolph “Rudy” Bernard Carlson peacefully passed away at Hospice of North Idaho’s Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on October 16, 2019. He was born on July 6, 1949 in Kellogg, Idaho; the son of Rudolph and Anne (Cordes) Carlson.

Rudy was born and raised in the Silver Valley, graduating from Wallace High School, class of 1968. He then continued his education at North Idaho Junior College of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. In 1971, Rudy married Denise Maravilla, their daughter Trisha was born in 1972.

Rudy was a hard working man who worked 29 years as a miner, working for the Sunshine Mine, Bunker Hill, and Galena Mines throughout his career.

Rudy’s passion was fishing, known jokingly as the “fish whisperer” because he had a knack to find fish wherever he went. Rudy’s most recent project was helping to revitalize the fishing pond at Gene Day Park. He believed it was important that kids could learn the pleasures and sport of fishing. Rudy also enjoyed hunting, motorcycles, and spending as much time as possible in the mountains or on the water with his friends.

Rudy enjoyed going to morning coffee with “The Guys” at the Brooks Restaurant, where he was given his own key, and job of getting the coffee started in the morning. Rudy was always helping others, especially his neighbors who were like family to him; if you needed anything, you could count on Rudy.

Like in life, Rudy took full advantage of his final days that included reconciliation, instruction, laughter, tears, and precious goodbyes.

Rudy held memberships with the Shoshone County Sportsmen’s Association, Ducks Unlimited, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Rudy is survived by his daughter, Trisha (Jim) VanderGiessen of Tacoma, WA; his three brothers, Ronnie (Bonnie) Carlson of Spokane, WA, Darrel (Joann) Carlson of Post Falls, ID, Roger (Donna) Trumbull of Osburn, ID, his sister-in-law Bernadine Carlson of Osburn, ID, as well as four grandchildren. Rudy was preceded in death by both parents, Rudolph and Anne and one brother Cordes “Cork” Carlson.

A Celebration of Rudy’s Life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 11:00 A.M., at the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg with Rev. Alec Rivera officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall following services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Shoshone County Sportsmen’s Association: P.O. Box 725, Wallace, Idaho 83873.

The family extends their gratitude to his caregivers at the Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho- each of them were truly a blessing and appreciated so much.
