Food bank offers new second location
OSBURN — The Wallace Food Bank is hoping to serve even more people now after recently opening a new location in Osburn.
Located at the Grace Evangelical Free Church, pastor Nick Hoffman explains that having this second location will allow the food bank to better serve the community.
“We’ve been working on trying to do some service stuff and we’re kind of an older congregation, so we can’t go out and do car washes. Nobody wants to see that,” Hoffman said jokingly.
The wheels started turning on the new location in mid-2018 when Hoffman spoke with Good Samaritan pastor Art Flemming, who is also in charge of the Wallace Food Bank that’s based out of the United Methodist Church in Wallace.
Flemming was hoping to find another church that would be home to a second location for the group and Hoffman wasn’t about to turn him down.
“This is something that God dropped into our lap and we’re certainly not going to say no to the chance.”
The new Osburn Food Bank will hold pick-up days on the first Thursday of every month from 3 to 5 p.m. (times may change to accommodate work schedules).
The Osburn location will rely on the Wallace Food Bank stock of food for roughly a year until Grace Evangelical can get their own donations coming in.
Hoffman is hoping to get new folks to the location and spread awareness that no special qualifications are needed.
“All they need to do is come. We don’t ask a lot of questions. If you need food, we’ll get you registered real quick and grab your food,” he said.
On top of just simply having their own stock, Hoffman wants to get enough food so that people who come in can pick out their own items and not have to just accept a pre-made bag.
“Whoever comes is getting something they need and that’s the goal. That’s been the goal of the Wallace Food Bank for years, so that’s what we want to do.”
Grace Evangelical Free Church is located at 214 N. Second St. and can be reached at 208-753-8392.
