Robert “Bob” George Staley, 96

Robert “Bob” George Staley, 96, of Silverton, ID, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society – Silverwood Village. Bob was born on August 19, 1923 in Cashmere, WA, a son of the late George Staley and Susan Layport Staley.

Bob attended local schools in Cashmere then later went on to serve our country and join the US Air Force, proudly serving during WWII and then stationed in Japan during the Korean War. It was while he was stationed overseas in Sheffield, England that he met his wife, Muriel Allsop. The two were married in England on December 23, 1944. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Bob and Muriel lived in Holden, WA and then moved to the Silver Valley in 1956. He worked in the local mines and also did carpentry work for the mining operations.

Bob was a member of the American Legion and the Silver Valley Squares, a square dancing club. Bob was an accomplished woodworker, he braided and both did latch hook work making beautiful rugs, paint by numbers artistry, gardening, and compassionately and diligently taking care of and feeding stray cats. He will always be remembered as a very kind-hearted man with a great sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and a nephew.

Survivors include his loving wife, Muriel Staley of Silverton, ID; three daughters, Jean (George) Collins of Blaine, WA, Peggy (Harve) Johnston of Pinehurst, ID, and Patty (Dennis) Whitaker of Ferndale, WA; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Dwight Staley of Selah, WA; two nieces and one nephew.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held for Bob at later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Silver Valley Cat Wranglers, PO Box 995, Osburn, ID 83849.
