Online program to share area ghost stories

| August 18, 2020 11:34 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — The author of a new book, “Ghosts of Coeur d’Alene and the Silver Valley,” will discuss her work as part of an online program on the Facebook page for the Coeur d’Alene Public Library, streaming live at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27.

The program can be accessed at www.facebook/CDALibrary.

According to Deborah Cuyle, spirits of pioneers who risked their lives in search of fortune still roam the old buildings in the Silver Valley. The ghosts of a young boy and teacher actively wander the halls of The Roosevelt Inn; a prisoner of war haunts the old fort where his torture and killing took place; still waiting for her lover’s return, an expectant spirit haunts her favorite room in the Jameson Hotel; the skeletons of unfortunate soldiers lie where Fatty Carrol buried their bodies so long ago, and the phantoms of restless miners still linger in abandoned mines, she said.

Cuyle reveals Coeur d’Alene and the greater Silver Valley’s fascinating haunted history and the souls that refuse to leave in her book to be published on Aug. 24 by The History Press.

She is the author of “Kidding Around Portland, Ore.;” “Kidding Around Cannon Beach, Ore.;” “Haunted Snohomish;” “Ghosts of Leavenworth and the Cascade Foothills;” and “Haunted Everett.”

She and her husband are remodeling a haunted house in Wallace.
