Janet Marilyn Whalen, 84

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Janet Marilyn Whalen, 84, of Osburn, Idaho, passed away Aug. 22, 2020, at Mountain Valley of Cascadia in Kellogg, Idaho. She was born June 10, 1936, in Spokane, Wash. Janet was the daughter of Floyd and Dulcie (Tanner) Milne.

Janet grew up in Spokane. She attended and graduated from Central Valley High School, class of 1954. On Feb. 14, 1976, Janet was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Whalen. Together they raised six children. Dick passed away in 2018.

In her free time, Janet enjoyed traveling in the R.V. and visiting new places. She also was a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing, knitting and quilting. She also enjoyed going square dancing and was a proud member of the St. Alphonsus Alter Society.

Janet is survived by her two sisters, Idell and Darell Jenicek of Post Falls, Idaho, and Ruth Aubrey of Richland, Wash.; six children, Pat Whalen of Cataldo, Idaho, Dorothy Sebastian of Jefferson, Ore., Curt and Angie Whalen of North Pole, Alaska, Bret and Kim Monigold of Spokane Valley, Wash., Chet Monigold of Harlingen, Texas, and Colette and David Anthony of Osburn, Idaho; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; a brother-in-law, Steve Aubrey; daughter-in-law Cindy Monigold; step-grandson Daniel Anthony and two great-granddaughters.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg, with Father Jerome Montez serving as celebrant.
