Mount Pulaski fire at 50% containment
WALLACE – The Mount Pulaski wildfire near Wallace seems to be under control after some quick reporting Wednesday afternoon.
Idaho Department of Lands Assistant Fire Warden, Chris Myers, told the Shoshone county Sheriff's Office that the fire, located on a mountainside southwest of Wallace, is currently 50% contained and is not expected to grow further.
"Due to the quick reporting by a citizen, IDL was able to immediately respond to the one-quarter acre fire utilizing a helicopter, four fixed-wing aircraft, two firebosses, and two heavy tankers.
The firefighters on the ground have been made up of ground engine crewmembers and eight smoke jumpers.
According to the Coeur d-Alene Interagency Dispatch Center, the fire has burned approximately .85 acres.
While Myers does not expect the fire to grow any further, citizens will continue to see smoke for several days while they continue to work on it.
SCSo stressed in their press release that crews were able to get a handle on this incident quickly thank to some quick reporting by locals.
"Myers thought it was important to mention that due to the quick detection and reporting of the fire, IDL was able to immediately respond and prevent the fire from growing," they said. "A huge THANK YOU goes out to the citizens who made the phone call to get the responders on their way."
The first calls reporting the fire came in around 2 p.m. on Aug. 27.
