SMELTERVILLE — What better time to add another doctor to the community than in the middle of a pandemic?

Shoshone Medical Center announced earlier this month that they have added Dr. Jocelyn Korasick to their Family Medicine clinic staff in Smelterville.

Since her first day on Nov. 30, Dr. Korasick has enjoyed getting to know both patients and co-workers.

"Everyone is super nice and really helpful," she said. "I like small-town medicine."

On top of just being another key member of the team, Korasick is also assuming the responsibility of Medical Director for the clinic. As director, she will be making sure that the right policies and procedures are being followed, plus ensuring a high level of quality care.

Originally born in Illinois, Korasick has lived all over the country and has family in Pennsylvania. For medical school, she attended Rush University in Chicago and then completed her residency at Idaho State University in Pocatello.

For the last six years, she has worked in Spokane Valley at MultiCare Rockwood Clinic.

Korasick explains that she and her family moved to the Silver Valley because all the right pieces fell into place.

"We had planned on buying a house in the Silver Valley just for the weekends because we ski and bike and do all those fun things," she said. "When my husband was at the lumber store, he ran into Teirza (Bristow) spouse, who mentioned that there was an opening."

Attracted by the idea of being near mountains and working in a small community, she had made up her mind.

"When I found out that this position was purely outpatient, while still being able to work in a small town environment, which is really where my passion is, I applied just to see what it was like," Korasick said.

SMC Business Development Coordinator Shayleen Jerome explains that Korasick is skilled in all aspects of family care with her particular areas of clinical interest including women's health, chronic disease, preventative wellness, quality care and mental health.

"When she's not at work, she is busy with her husband of 23 years and their four children," Jerome added.

Dr. Korasick is available at SMC Family Medicine clinic on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and every third Saturday. To schedule an appointment with her, call 208-784-4612.
