Back to our normal schedule

| December 17, 2020 3:23 PM

Current COVID-19 school policies are negatively affecting education, athletics and mental stability of students. In the Wallace School District, we are on a hybrid schedule allowing us to attend school 2-3 days a week.

This is affecting students because it limits access to in-person instructions with teachers. This is causing more students to have failing grades than normal. As a senior varsity basketball player, having no fans in the crowd makes it difficult to play my best. I don’t get to spend these special moments with the fans who include my family, friends and classmates.

This policy is eroding mental stability among high school students. I am worried about my classmates who report feeling depressed, stressed and anxious due to being isolated.

I recommend that we return to our five-day a week schedule because young adults are shown to have a more mild reaction to COVID. The damage being done by the COVID-19 policies is greater than the risk of the disease.
