OSBURN — With a little help from the firefighters of Shoshone County Fire District No. 1, Santa Claus is coming to the towns of Osburn, Silverton and Wallace on Wednesday.

SCFD No. 1 Lt. Victor Malsom told the News-Press that Santa himself reached out to the district and asked if they could help him spread some extra cheer this year.

"Santa told us that because he couldn’t make it to any parades this year, he wanted to come down and say hello to everyone before his big night on Christmas Eve," he said.

Santa (and possibly Mrs. Claus) will exchange his sleigh for a red fire truck and start his journey on Dec. 23 at the Wallace Fire Station around 4 p.m. He plans to spend roughly 30 minutes touring the city before heading off to Silverton around 4:30 p.m. (see schedule at the end of this article).

After about 10 minutes in Silverton, Santa will end his journey with a 20 minute drive through Osburn.

Lt. Malsom explains that while Santa can be anywhere in no time at all, SCFD No. 1 crews must be available to respond to calls. Because of this, Santa and the firefighters will only be going down the main streets of the towns.

"Santa also said he understands this and said it would also allow him to say hello and get back to the North Pole sooner so he can finish getting things ready for Christmas!"

Proper COVID-19 safety precautions will be observed throughout the tour.
