Student Council brings holiday spirit to WHS
WALLACE — Students at Wallace Jr./Sr. High School made sure that 2020 in all of its horrific glory couldn’t stop them from spreading holiday cheer throughout their school.
Thanks largely in part to the WHS Student Council, and a little help from Marty the Miner, the students acquired and delivered various gift cards to members of the teaching staff at the school just before winter break.
The Wallace Parent/Teacher Association collected the gift cards — all of which are from local businesses.
That wasn’t all for the WHS Student Council though, as the leadership group made sure that the school was in winter wonderland mode for much of the month of December by decorating in and around the building.
Once the building was ready, a veritable Christmas spirit week was kicked off as students were given the chance to rock their favorite holiday garb, whether it was characters from their favorite holiday films, ugly Christmas sweaters, or just participating in holiday themed events and activities.
Some lucky students even had holiday wishes granted for them.
The Student Council, under the direction of Student Body President Carter Bailey, received several wish lists from students and through the generosity of many local businesses, some of those wishes were able to be fulfilled.
WHS math teacher Pat Specht is the staff leader of the Student Council and he was thrilled by the positive response that the Council received from their peers. He also was especially proud of the Council themselves for bringing so much holiday cheer in a much needed time.
“Students enjoyed the festive atmosphere, decorations, activities and the annual holiday lunch,” Specht said. “The scavenger hunt was a big success and students receiving gifts were very appreciative and thankful. We had lots of positive feedback from the community. The Student Council really did a great job spreading some holiday cheer.”
The WHS Student Council would like to extend its thanks to their supporters, including Dave Smith Motors, Zanetti Bros., Nasco, Inland Traffic Control, Northwest Mine Supply, Vester Eye Clinic, as well as all of their anonymous donors who helped them grant wishes and purchase gifts for 66 local students.
