Shoshone County Primary Election information

WALLACE – Shoshone County will be holding a Primary Election on May 19, 2020. Each candidate shall file a Declaration of Candidacy with the County Clerk. The first day to file for all candidates, including independents, is March 2, 2020 for the Primary and General Elections. The last day to file is March 13, 2020 until 5:00 pm.

The following is a list of qualifications for the county positions that will be voted on at the Primary Election:

COUNTY COMMISSIONER - DISTRICT No. 1 (4-year term)

Represents West Osburn, Kellogg, Wardner

COUNTY COMMISSIONER - DISTRICT No. 2 (2-year term)

Represents Smelterville, Pinehurst & Kingston

Qualifications for County Commissioner

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the General Election, a citizen of the United States, and shall have resided in the county one year next preceding the General Election and in the district, which he or she represents, for a period of 90 days next preceding the Primary Election.

COUNTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY (4-year term)

Qualifications for County Prosecuting Attorney

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the general election, is admitted to the practice of law within this state, is a citizen of the United States, and a qualified elector within this county.

COUNTY SHERIFF (4-year term)

Qualifications for County Sheriff

Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of the general election, a citizen of the United States, and shall have resided within the county one year next preceding his or her election.

PRECINCT COMMITTEEMAN (2-year term)

A precinct committeeman for each political party shall be elected in every voting precinct within the county.

Qualifications for Precinct Committeeman

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the primary election, a citizen of the United States, a registered elector of and shall have resided in the voting precinct for a period of six (6) months next preceding the primary election.

Declaration of Candidacy forms may be picked up in the Clerk’s office on the first floor of the Shoshone County courthouse, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Anyone declaring themselves a candidate for the above offices, (other than precinct committeeman), must file an “Appointment and Certification of Political Treasurer” form, which is also available in the Clerk’s office.
