‘Tom’ Leonard Thomas Maitland, 69 ‘Tom’ Leonard Thomas Maitland, 69
‘Tommy – Mutt Mutt
– Mini Brute’
Tom was born June 23, 1950, to William “Leonard” Maitland and Maxine (Lawson) Maitland in Kellogg, Idaho. He went to be with the Lord on Feb. 10, 2020, at Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
He graduated Kootenai High School in 1968 and attended North Idaho College for business. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He was in the Army Reserves from 1971-1977. Tom worked in the woods sawing, and his most loved job was hooking logs. Tom was very well-known for his ability to hook logs. Tom had many nicknames “Mutt Mutt,” “Mini Brute,” and occasionally the “Little White Goat.” Tommy trained several men to hook logs. No matter who he was working for or with, he loved his working family; in his heart they were all his brothers, and on at least one occasion, his sister.
He was an avid outdoorsman. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, trapping, camping and just spending time with nature.
The dearest to his heart were his family, his lifelong friends, and his brothers and sisters in faith. Those that knew him know it was always a pleasure to have known him. His greatest love of all was the Lord, our God.
On May 31, 1986, Tom became one with his soul mate, Kriste Jo (Gunderson) Maitland, at Indian Springs Church. They lived their adventurous life together at Willow Creek Road in Medimont, Idaho.
He is survived by his wife, Kriste Jo, at their home; his children, Cari Ann Bunch of Athol, Idaho, Mike (Nancy) Maitland of Willow Creek and Mandi (Larry) Fugate of Rathdrum, Idaho; seven grandchildren that he dearly adored: Alex, Nic, Madison Amelia, Casi Jo, Kyler, Gage and Tayva; one great-granddaughter, Ember May; his sisters, Merna (Jim) Cherry of Post Falls, Idaho, Linda (Bob) Smith of Elk River, Idaho, and Donna (Joe) Layton of Evans Creek; brother Fred Maitland (Dawn Wildmer); and all the “Medimonsters!”
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, at Country Barn BNB. Food will be provided.
