Birdine Rose Schilter, 97

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend, Birdine Rose Schilter passed away on December 31, 2019. Birdine was born on October 8, 1922 in Crocker, South Dakota. She was the 9th of 16 children born to Elvie Robert and Anna Florence (Aebli) Larsen.

Birdine married the love of her life Glen Schilter on July 6, 1940 in Redfield, South Dakota. They moved to a farm near Athol, South Dakota and had two children Marlene Ann and Glen Herman. Glen was a wheat farmer and also raised cattle and swine. Birdine raised and housed over 300 chickens each year for laying eggs and fryers. She also raised 60-150 turkeys, geese and ducks. They worked and lived on the farm until 1955 when they moved to Idaho.

Birdine was active in the PTA in South Dakota where Glen served on the school board. She also took an active part in social circles, extension club, whisk club and was on the building committee for Our Savior Lutheran Church in Redfield where she was a member. Birdine was also leader of the 4-H Club for several years.

Upon moving to Idaho they began attending American Lutheran Church in Kellogg where she taught Sunday school and Bible study. In 1963, she began working at Providence Hospital in Wallace as a nurse until she transferred and went to work at the newly built Hospital in Silverton. She worked there until her retirement nearly 24 years later.

Birdine loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed sightseeing, going to the lake and gardening.

Birdine is survived by two children Marlene Sproul and Glen (Wanda) Schilter; 7 grandchildren Steve (Susan) Peyer, Ladina (Chancey) Merwin, Valerie (Eddie) Boggs, Rayelle (Clayton) Green, Alison (Adam) Bear, Denise Schilter (Jesse Jetmore) Dustin Schilter (Alexandria Dittman) 25 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; two siblings Josephine Ried and Raymond Larsen and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Glen, her parents Elvie and Anna; brothers Lenard, Arthur, Abe, William, Robert, Herman and Duane; sisters Katherine Larsen, Fern Wise, Ethyl Jones, Vera Stoltz, Arlene Shaw and Pearl Shelton; her son-in-law Frank Sproul and two grandsons Larry Peyer and Terry Peyer.

Per her request no funeral will be held. A celebration of life will be held during the summer of 2020.
