Donald Don William Johnson, 94
Donald “Don” William Johnson, 94, of Kingston, Idaho, passed away January 9, 2020 at Mountain Valley of Cascadia of Kellogg. He was born June 13, 1925 in Phillips, Wisconsin; Donald was the son of Arthur and Ruth (Foster) Johnson; he was one of nine children.
Don attended the Phillips High School of Phillips, Wisconsin and in his senior year, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the ship the “Bunker Hill”; ironically after leaving the Navy, he had worked at the Bunker Hill Zinc Plant of Kellogg, where he worked his way through the ranks to become the Upper Plant Superintendent and later Acid Plant Superintendent; Don was instrumental in the building of both the Zinc Plant and Smelter Acid Plants. He was more knowledgeable than anyone at the Bunker Hill, when it came to solving operational problems at either plant. Prior to working at the Bunker Hill, Don and his first wife, Rose, were owners and operators of a movie theater in Big Timber, Montana.
Don first married Rose Pederson on August 2, 1948 in Vancouver, Washington; Rose passed away January 17, 1995. He then married Ilene Eaton in 2005 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho; Ilene passed away on January 14, 2011.
Don was a member of the Bunker Hill Twenty year Club. He loved and enjoyed hunting and fishing adventures with his brother-in-law Bill Hurt from the Seattle area.
Don is survived by his dear friends Scott Ross and Rich Nearing; three step-children Brad, Gene and Willow Eaton; his brother and sisters Ruth Koester, Charles Johnson, June French and Betty Pierrard; and several nieces and nephews from the Wisconsin and Minnesota areas. Don was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters Jean, Raymond, John and Dorothy.
