Kellogg School District sends best wishes to Silver Mountain

As our school district leadership team reflected on the tragedy on the mountain last week we first remembered those who lost their lives doing something that many of us know well. In a matter of moments, lives were taken or changed forever. For those who left the mountain after being rescued, we marveled at their stories of survival--thankful for these miracles. Then our thoughts went quickly to the staff, first responders, and volunteers who worked tirelessly during the event.

We realized this was an example of a community uniting when tragedy strikes. For those of us who watched and waited, our hearts and minds united through hope that the outcome would not be worse. For others, who stepped in to help directly, there was a sense of duty to work until the job was done through personal sacrifice and grit. Many heroes surfaced during those days and we feel a sense of pride and comfort knowing that our community is filled with people who will step forward when needed.

So, to our friends and neighbors at Silver Mountain, we know your days ahead will bring challenges and our well wishes go out to each of you. For the first responders we have renewed respect for your expertise and dedication. And, to the many volunteers, we simply say thank you for selfless acts. Each of you inspires us to be a positive part of our community.
