Sup's Corner

The Kellogg School District has been fortunate to have a Board of Trustees who work to improve our district. Bonnie Farmin, Sam Gibbons, Art Krulitz, Todd Shepherd and Carolyn Turner have served without any compensation and very few perks. They attend the monthly board meetings, and work throughout the month with other duties that take up their time. I appreciate their giving spirit and desire to work for our kids.

This month we had a change in the board make-up when Art Krultiz decided to retire from his board position. When I returned to Kellogg to work a few years ago, I was delighted to see he was in this leadership role. I’d always known him to have the reputation of being one of the nicest people around. Since then, I have watched his leadership skills and recognize him to be one of the best role models and thoughtful examples of leadership I’ve seen. Art gave many extra hours of dedication to the Kellogg School District by attending conferences, workshops and numerous meetings. His demeanor brought a calming sense, even in tough situations. He always took that extra step to make sure our district ran smoothly.

I have a place in my heart for Art because he officially offered me the position of superintendent. He helped me transition into the job and supported me in every way possible. So, I especially will miss his presence in our district; however, his leadership will continue to influence us well into the future. I can’t think of a better legacy. And, I hope he’ll come back and serve on a few committees now and then.

Taking Art’s position is an individual I met while she was volunteering her time for us. When she learned of the vacancy and realized she was in the same zone as Art, she quickly stepped forward and went through the process of running for the KSD Board. Alexa Griffin is filled with enthusiasm and dedication to the kids in the district. In fact, she was a Kellogg kid once herself and graduated as a Wildcat. To date, she’s already attended numerous events to help her prepare for the duties of a trustee. She was officially installed earlier this month. I am thankful she’s joining our team.

I’ve made it customary during our board meetings to include a verbal thank you to our board members. So, I’ll include it here, as well. Thank you to Bonnie, Sam, Todd, Carolyn, Alexa and Art for your service to our district.
