Kellogg's top Prospect

Monica Miller has been helping people achieve their fitness goals for awhile now, but in the last six months she’s been able to really take her passion to the next level.

For nearly six years, she cultivated her brand Prospect Fitness, but in July 2019, she opened Prospect Fitness Studio in uptown Kellogg and is now operating at an all-time high.

She offers a full, and diverse lineup of classes that really range in the types of workouts they offer including Barre, Zumba, a snow sports fitness class, and many others.

Each of these classes offer a different style of workout and can appeal to a wide array of people based on the style of workout.

While she plays it cool and believes that anyone with the time and energy can instruct things like Zumba, she really brings a contagious energy that makes people want to be part of her classes.

“I really want people to be able to come to my classes and feel comfortable and welcome,” Miller said. “This is about them doing something for themselves and I want people to have fun when they do it.”

Zumba is an incredibly popular dance-style workout, but other fitness programs like Barre are little less known.

Barre training is a full-body workout that incorporates a wall-mounted or portable ballet barre to combine elements of classical ballet training with pilates, yoga, calisthenics, cardio dance and even strength-training with light weights or other forms of resistance.

While she’s always maintained a relatively active lifestyle, complete with several years of formal dance training, Miller’s path to Prospect was one that really puts off the try-hard vibe that resonates with people in a big way.

“So, back in the day I was working at a bank, and it turns out that I’m not great with customer service nor do I enjoy it,” Miller said with a chuckle. “So I just typed in jobs in the Silver Valley on Facebook and the Zumba class popped up. I had never been to a class before, but I told myself that I was going to give it a shot.”

After taking a few classes, Miller thought to herself, “maybe I could teach this?”

And from that point on, she really jumped in.

She taught classes basically anywhere that had enough room to facilitate one, she did them as part of special events, she did them with local athletic teams, all the while building up a massive knowledge and client base that helped her achieve the dream of opening her own studio.

Her main message?

Prospect Fitness Studio is for everyone.

The cliche tropes about making sure everyone feels welcome are not empty when it comes to Miller and her willingness to do everything in her power to make someone feel welcome.

She’ll even acknowledge that selling the idea of fitness programs can be near impossible at times, but she takes it in stride and has even made it sound hilarious.

“I don’t know if you know this, but there’s an awful lot of people in the Silver Valley who don’t like to dance in front of other people,” Miller said. “This is like the absolute worst of it too. It’s like, ‘hey, do you want to come to this open place where everyone is flailing around? You don’t know them, you don’t know this music. Do you want to do something you’ve never done and get hot and sweaty in front of other people, but it’s kinda fun?’ Like really, who wants to do that? That’s basically running a fitness studio in a nutshell.”

Now that she’s in the new studio and really got her feet under her in that regard, Miller is really looking forward to seeing how the New Year’s resolution crowd reacts to what she has to offer.

“This is the first New Year in the new studio and I’m hoping that having something new to bring to the table, like a fresh space, brings the people in, but it can be hit and miss,” Miller said. “Last year, January was slow, but then suddenly February was like everyone decided it was time to get going, and then March was strong. And then, you know, people get excited for Easter candy in April.”

One thing is for sure, Monica Miller is definitely one of the Silver Valley’s most Fit and Fab.
