Remaining occupants of plane crash identified
COEUR d’ALENE — The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office has identified the remaining occupants of the July 5 mid-air collision over Lake Coeur d’Alene
The last victim to be identified in the Brooks Seaplane is David E. Sorenson, 57, of Clayton, Calif. Sorenson was on the Seaplane with the pilot Neil Lunt, Sean Fredrickson and his three children.
The two occupants on the Cessna have been identified as Jay M. Cawley, 66, Lewiston, and Kelly J. Kreeger, 61, Auburn, Calif. They were the only two occupants on the plane.
The investigation to the cause of the collision is being conducted by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The planes collided on a clear afternoon, killing eight people. Investigators have said there was no sign of trouble or any calls for help from either plane, and neither plane tried to take any evasive action before the crash.
The plane recovery is being coordinated by the insurance companies for the two aircrafts, a press release said. Some wreckeage has been recovered. Once the remaining wreckage is recovered from about 125 feet of water near Powerhorn Bay, it will be handed over to NTSB and transported to a facility out of state for further investigation.
The release said it is unknown when recovery efforts will continue.
The boat launch and docks at Loff’s Bay are open again but may need to be closed again when recovery operations resume.
