These tacos are addictive

WALLACE — Estos pueden ser los tacos más deliciosos del mundo…

That may be conjecture, but for anyone who has stopped by Muchachos Tacos, they may share a similar opinion.

Wallace’s newest tacorita is exceptionally unique, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given the business’s owners and their history serving food at the Center of the Universe.

Rob and Luanne Wuerfel, the owners of the Blackboard Marketplace, moved their popular combination sandwich shop and Italian restaurant to the corner of Sixth and Cedar streets and needed to fill their old space on Bank Street, which led to a retread of one of Rob’s earlier ideas.

“When I first met Rob, I had hired him on as a chef and had asked him if he ever wanted his own place,” Luanne recalled. “And I’ll never forget him saying, ‘I just want to sell tacos on the beach.’”

We should all be certainly glad he settled on selling his tacos in the mountains.

To go along with some awesome new luchador-themed decor, Rob has created a menu that has a gourmet taco for everyone.

If you are wanting something more familiar like shredded pork or chicken, or perhaps shrimp, he’s got a delicious and very specific taco for you.

However, if you are looking for a taco from outside the box, maybe barbecue duck, beef short ribs, or even filet mignon might pique your interest.

The menu isn’t limited to just tacos, they have other Hispanic faire available complete with the aforementioned meat choices to choose from.

Each tortilla is stuffed to the max, making a pair of tacos from Muchachos a surprisingly filling meal.

“We had looked at another option prior to this, but we had all this homework that we had done and all of these delicious taco recipes that we wanted to use,” Luanne said. “After we moved into our new space, we were trying to figure out what we were going to do here and we decided to take those recipes and open a tacorita. We figured that was better than the building sitting vacant.”

Not only is it better than being vacant, when you bite into one of these tacos, you feel like you are experiencing something you never knew you needed (I had three myself during this interview, the duck, chicken and shrimp).

As far as the name goes, Rob and Luanne, like all of us, have no problem getting down on Netflix’s “Narcos.”

“Every time Pablo Escobar greeted his cronies on the show he would say, ‘hola muchachos’ and he always greeted them as muchachos,” Luanne said. “Rob and I thought it was so funny, so we went around imitating him and when we needed a name, we both thought of muchachos.”

Muchachos Tacos is located at 517 1/2 Bank St. (the former location of the Blackboard Cafe) and is open for dine-in or carry-out Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 7 p.m.

By the way… that first sentence says: These may be the world’s most delicious tacos…
