SHOSHONE COUNTY –– Suspended schools in the Silver Valley are making a point to keep their students fed during this time of uncertainty.

With the closures of the Kellogg and Mullan School Districts many students were put in the precarious positions of wondering where their breakfast and lunches were going to come from over the next few weeks and the schools wanted to make sure that their students have proper nutrition to get them through the long break.

“We will work diligently to adhere to social distancing guidelines while recognizing many of our students rely upon this source for nourishment,” KSD Superintendent Dr. Nancy Larsen said in a recent press release.

Mullan will begin deliveries beginning on Thursday, March 19, and like Kellogg, will utilize buses to deliver the food to the students at various stops.

Students must be present at the time of pickup and the distribution will be handled drive-thru style in an effort to maintain social distancing requirements.

Food can be picked up at John Mullan Elementary School from 11:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m., (Monday through Friday).

The buses delivering food will follow this schedule:

11:10 a.m. Gribbles

11:15 a.m. Foster Ranch

11:25 a.m. Steele Home

11:35 a.m. Mill Road

11:50 a.m. Wallace (across the street from Harvest Foods)

In an effort to not waste food, the Mullan School District asks that parents of students who DO NOT need food call and let the school know.

In Kellogg, due to the larger scale of delivery needed they do not have a schedule ready as of this publication, but they are planning to deliver beginning on Monday, March 23.

As with Mullan, the meals are available to children, 18 years old or younger and each child must be present to receive a meal.

Deliveries will be on weekdays only and will continue through the scheduled Spring Break period due to the unusual circumstances currently facing the world.

“Our goal is to continue serving our students in the best capacity given the considerable circumstances we’re facing,” Larsen said. “Our program may change if unforeseen events occur. Please stay well, we hope to be back in business soon.”

Once Kellogg has their schedule ready, the Shoshone News-Press will update this story and make sure both schedules are published via social media.
