CATALDO — The youngest members of the local Bitterroot Archers club capped off the second and final round of their season with a shoot on Wednesday.

Held at the group’s outdoor range in Cataldo, 23 competitors took to the 10 target course and flung some well-placed arrows at a variety of targets that even included dinosaurs.

Before the event, the young shooters were given personalized shirts and split into different flights based on their age. Their age also determined their distance away from each target.

Young and new shooters took aim from five yards away while the more experienced shooters up to 12 years old let fly from 10 yards. The teen division shot from even further out.

These young archers have had all year to hone their skills after many participated in the first indoor round of their league.

Even with circumstances being what they are with the COVID-19 situation, Bitterroot Archers organizer Jonnie Nelson was pleased with the turnout of the event.

“It was a really fun time,” she said. “Everyone shot really well and we’re happy to see the number of junior archers continue to grow.”

After all the archers had the chance to shoot, organizers handed out awards to the winners and provide free hot dogs for everyone.

Based in Kellogg, the Bitterroot Archers archery club has been around since the 1980s and normally hosts an annual Spring 3D shoot at their outdoor course.

Unfortunately, due to the recent pandemic, the club decided late Thursday night to postpone the 3D shoot/first leg of the North Idaho Triple Crown. This event is planned to be rescheduled and a new date will be announced at a later time.

Bitterroot Archers is a nonprofit organization that conducts its indoor shooting at their range located at 138 W. Cameron Ave. in Kellogg.
