WALLACE –– After taking Friday to assess the situation, the Wallace School District has decided to move forward with the plans that they previously laid out and close all of their buildings to students beginning on Monday, March 23.

WSD superintendent Dr. Bob Ranells had spoken of adapting a virtual style of learning for his students at Wallace Jr./Sr. High School, as well as preparing instructional packets for younger students.

Teachers in the WSD spent Friday preparing lesson plans and packets, as well as deep cleaning their facilities according to Ranells, who is having his instructors continue to work from the district’s buildings while the students complete assignments and learn from home.

“Wallace Jr./Sr. High School will be closed Monday, March 23, through Friday, March 27, teachers will be available in the building (via phone or email), during school time (8:00 -3:30),” the district said in a social media release.

This falls in line with Ranells’ comment from Thursday, where he stated that, “It’s not a school closure per se, because we are still functioning as a school system.”

With Spring Break effectively beginning on Friday, March 27, for the students at Wallace Jr./Sr. High School, the district will only need to digitally instruct students for the next five school days before getting the next nine days off.

The district isn’t quite ready just yet and will be contacting students on Monday to help them get started as well as provide them other information, such as potential meal deliveries.

For more information, or to inquire about any of the district’s plans or potential services contact either Wallace Jr./Sr. High School at (208) 753-5315 or Silver Hills Elementary School at (208) 556-1556.
