COVID-19 scam alert

| March 23, 2020 1:35 PM

There have been several reports of scams going around as the COVID-19 crisis continues. Here is a run-down of the scams that have been reported so far:

?

•The Red Cross is going door to door wanting to clean your house.

•The Red Cross is calling for donations of money.

•The Red Cross going door to door selling COVID-19 test kits.

The Red Cross is a great organization that helps a lot of people. They do accept donations, however, they are not currently going door to door looking for donations. If you have any questions about the Red Cross and donations or you would like to donate to The Red Cross you can go to their web page at www.redcross.org or call them at 1-800-732-2767.

In addition to the Red Cross scams going around, we received notice that someone is calling and asking for bank information so the “Stimulus check” could be deposited into their account. First, the stimulus checks have not been approved and when they are approved, it sounds like they will be mailed out and not direct deposited. Bottom line, don’t give out your bank information to anyone you don’t know.

If you have questions about a possible scam or have information about scams related to this event you are asked to call 208-556-1114. If you are a victim of a scam please call208-556-1114.

The Shoshone Emergency Operations Center and the Incident Commanders would like to remind everyone that don’t trust everything you see on social media. The information coming out of the EOC is the most accurate and up to date information available.
