PES adjusting kindergarten registration
PINEHURST — The Kellogg School District is set to begin accepting registrations for kindergarten, but there are few changes to how things are usually done.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pinehurst Elementary School is adjusting how they handle the registration process to ensure that parents, students and staff are able to remain safe.
Registration is set to begin on Monday, May 4, where parents will pick up their registration packets during the scheduled homework pickup/drop off event from 7:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. and then from 5:30 p.m. through 7 p.m.
“We would normally have kindergarten round-up in the middle of May. Children and parents were invited to visit the classrooms where they could meet the kindergarten teachers, as well as get a feel for the classrooms,” said Corrina Waldo, PES registrar. “This year parents will come to the main office where I will greet them and will give them a registration packet that they will fill out from home and bring it back to me in the main office.”
The return date for the packets is set for May 18, which is also the next scheduled homework pickup/dropoff event.
If you are hoping to get your child registered for kindergarten they will need to be 5 years old on or prior to Sept. 1.
Once the registration packet is filled out, parents will need copies of their child’s birth certificate and immunization records to be turned in along with the registration.
Waldo, as well as the rest of the staff at PES know that this situation isn’t optimal, but this will ensure the safest measures are taken to keep the program from potentially getting behind schedule.
“We have talked about doing an open house before school starts back up in the fall,” Waldo said. “Nothing is set in stone yet, but more information will be posted on our Facebook page and through school messenger when we set a date.”
