Gyro Days, Lead Creek Derby postponed

| May 5, 2020 8:24 AM

WALLACE — The Wallace Gyro Club is saddened to inform you that, for the first time since 1942, they will be unable to provide the Lead Creek Derby that so many in the Silver Valley have grown to look forward to on the third Saturday of every June. The decision to cancel for this year was difficult for us to make, but seeing no path forward to a successful Lead Creek Derby this year, the decision was made to postpone it for a year.

As most everyone is painfully aware, the coronavirus pandemic has upended our lives in ways that were unimaginable just a few short weeks ago. The necessary controls imposed by our state to contain the virus conflict, in several areas, with the atmosphere and camaraderie that is so essential to the derby. The Wallace Gyro Derby Committee feels the only responsible course of action is to postpone the 79th Lead Creek Derby until 2021.

The Wallace Gyros would like to thank everyone who’s bought tickets and supported their fundraising efforts in prior years. It is this generosity that will allow the Gyros to continue with the charitable contributions and scholarships that they have funded for many decades. There will be no carnival this year, but the scholarships will still be awarded.

The Wallace Gyros have every intention of hosting a terrific Lead Creek Derby on June 19, 2021, and look forward to the revelry and camaraderie that is the Lead Creek Derby.
