Seniors cash out at scholarship ceremonies
Seniors at Mullan and Wallace high schools had quite a bit to celebrate last week, including more than $325,000 in scholarships that were awarded.
Due to the currently odd nature surrounding gatherings and large ceremonies, both schools hosted unique scholarship ceremonies for their students, including WHS using Zoom for their presentations.
Students at Mullan Jr./Sr. High School brought in more than $180,000 in scholarship monies from a myriad of sources, including several large scholarships received by Hannah Cote and Sam Hess.
Hess and Cote both pulled in large multi-year scholarships, which should do well in helping them get through their collegiate careers.
“I am so proud of our students and the community for contributing so generously to support Mullan students' post-high school education goals,” said MHS Counselor Heather Branstetter. “This year was really difficult for our seniors, who missed out on so much they had been looking forward to, and the circumstances required them to put out a lot more personal initiative to win scholarships. There is a lot of support out there for Mullan graduates, and I hope it’s inspiring to the younger students to see how much money they can take with them to college or tech programs.”

Students at Wallace Jr./Sr. High School received more than $150,000 in varying funds from memorial scholarships, local scholarships, as well as state and national sources.
WHS Counselor Marian Russell was pleased with her students’ haul and is pleased at the amount of support they received toward their secondary education.
“Wallace Jr./Sr. High School Senior Class of 2020 would like to warmly thank the many generous donors who made possible the scholarships that will allow them to attend college in the fall,” Russell said. “The Wallace community along with our Idaho colleges contributed $156,626 to assist the seniors with college expenses. The senior class is grateful to all the local families who sponsored memorial scholarships, for their loved ones, local community groups, state and national, and Idaho colleges. Thank you Wallace community for your support to further our education.”
Unlike other schools in the area, the Wallace School District administration prefers to keep the individual amounts received by each student private.
