Pinehurst Library offers computer access starting June 2

| May 28, 2020 2:29 PM

Community Library Network locations across Kootenai County will offer its members appointments for reserving one-hour computer access starting June 1, 2020. Pinehurst, in Shoshone County, will begin offering this service on June 2nd.

Libraries began self-service curbside pickup and book return in May. Now, in stage 3 of the Community Library Network’s Reopening Plan, computer reservations will be added to the service.

“Offering computer access allows us to play a role in Idaho’s economic recovery across our district,” states John Hartung, director of the Community Library Network.

Members can call their local library to reserve use of a computer, which includes internet access and printer access. Health practices are incorporated into the service plan. For example, time allotments will commonly be limited to one hour of computer use, computers will be spaced at least six feet apart, masks are required inside the building, and members under the age of 14 must be accompanied by someone over 14.

Libraries conscientiously continue planning for additional services that align with Governor Little’s Rebound Idaho Plan and local community health plans.

Computer access, self-service curbside pick-up, and outdoor book drops are the only services available in the current stage, beginning June 1. Public restrooms are not available, nor are general seating areas. These services will resume in stage 4 of the state’s reopening as well as other normal operations such as book browsing and program attendance.

The library network is a complex system that includes seven buildings, over 68,000 cardholders, hundreds of thousands of print materials circulating, and serves a population of over 111,000. Computer access can help support both a healthy economy and help community members return to closer-to-normal practices.

Currently, members may place holds on materials at communitylibrary.net. They are contacted when their hold is available. Outdoor book drops are open 24-7. Returned items are quarantined for at least 72-hours before they are provided to another member.

Librarians are available by phone to help with placing holds and using the self-service pickup. Book donations will not be accepted during this stage of the plan.
