SCSO reports zero alcohol or recreational deaths over holiday weekend

WALLACE – Memorial Day Weekend proved to be another busy holiday for the SCSO.

Our focus for last weekend was two-fold: the safety of our kids and the safety of the citizens and visitors to Shoshone County.

The SCSO deputies, as well a Pinehurst Police Department, Idaho State Police, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service personnel worked cooperatively to locate juvenile parties with the intent of getting our kids home safe. During the weekend’s Minor Consumption Emphasis, approximately 20 traffic stops were made resulting in 3 citations issued for Minor In Possession. Thank you to all the agencies who participated in the first MIP emphasis of the summer season.

Our second focus for the Memorial Day Weekend was the safety of the citizens and visitors of Shoshone County. Since Shoshone County is a popular recreation destination, the population of our county grows by 5,000 people plus in one weekend.- Our deputies were kept busy with traffic violations, making approximately 97 traffic stops and issuing 44 citations, mostly for speeding above reasonable and prudent levels, as well as speeding enhanced (16+ over the speed limit).

Deputies gave several verbal warnings and were dispatched to approximately 130 calls for service to include traffic accidents, traffic complaints, fights in progress, shots fired, drug offenses, and other various calls. By the end of the weekend, two arrests were made, one for driving under the influence and one for drug trafficking.

We are ecstatic to announce there were no alcohol or recreational fatalities to report.
