Wildcats nab nearly $1 million in scholarships

KELLOGG — Students at Kellogg High School are flush with scholarship cash following the announcement of their scholarship recipients last week.

Much like their counterparts to the East, the Wildcat students were unable to hold their normal scholarship ceremony like they have in years past, but counselor Elana Estill put together a digital presentation last Saturday, that ensured that each student got the recognition they deserved.

With all of the current strangeness happening in the world, making sure that the students still felt prioritized and that their hard work was noticed and appreciated was a goal for Estill.

“Creating the virtual ceremony was absolutely a labor of love,” Estill said. “Despite everything going on in the world right now, these kids managed to pull off some amazing things. I am incredibly proud of them and KHS is proud of them.”

That strangeness wasn’t just for students either, teachers who had become accustomed to parts of their school years being busier than others suddenly found themselves just as busy, but without the normal interaction that makes a lot of their work progress.

“This year was very peculiar,” Estill said. “I usually am working with students one-on-one during ‘scholarship season,’ and my office has a high amount of traffic from March to May. Obviously that was not the case this year.”

Estill might not have had the foot traffic, but that didn’t stop the students from continuing the scholarship and college application process while collectively earning $912,383 in scholarship money.

Kellogg High School will have its graduation at 1 p.m. Saturday in a limited attendance outdoor ceremony in the parking lot.
