Sixth Street Theatre cancels upcoming shows

WALLACE — After careful consideration the Sixth Street Melodrama and Theatre has decided to cancel their fall and winter productions.

The theater’s board of directors made the difficult decision last week following the announcement of Idaho Gov. Brad Little, who put the state back into Stage 3 of his plan to reopen Idaho.

The theater had been working toward their fall production of “The Fall Follies” which was set to be performed at the Worship Center in Smelterville to allow a bigger audience than they were comfortable with inside the Sixth Street building.

“It was determined that to keep our patrons and actors safe, the Fall Follies will be postponed indefinitely,” read the Sixth Street Theatre’s Facebook page.

The cast has decided that they will perform their fall production at a later time, but unfortunately they will be canceling their winter show “The Mysterious Missing Lawn Ornament-or-Who Stole the Blow Mold Santa Christmas” completely at this time.

The board is exploring options for later production and even trying to figure out something for early December that they can put out to entertain the community, but it will likely not be anything in person as long as seating and audience restrictions remain in place.

They are also moving forward with their plan for their spring productions, but as it is with everything right now — those plans are subject to change if need be.

“For now, we are hoping to have our spring show go on as scheduled, but that is tentative and will depend on what's happening in the country/state with COVID-19,” said Brady Bourgard with the Sixth Street Theatre. “We may also reschedule the fall and Christmas shows for later dates (in 2021) if we're able to do so.”

The theater does depend on ticket sales for much of their income, and keeping the lights on in the midst of a pandemic has proven to be a bit of a challenge, but people can donate to the Sixth Street Theatre by visiting their website, www.sixthstreetmelodrama.com.
