Two killed in car vs. semi-truck collision

ELK CREEK — Two people were killed in a car versus semi-truck collision Wednesday morning on Interstate 90.

Idaho State Police reports that on Wednesday at 4:18 a.m., a gold 1998 Nissan Maxima with three occupants was traveling westbound on I-90 near milepost 53 when it went into the median and then crossed over to the eastbound lanes. As a result of the lane switch, the Nissan was struck by a 2021 Freightliner semi-truck, driven by Michael Moore, 29, of Goldsboro, N.C.

Two occupants of the Nissan, Tony Allen, 49, of Spokane Valley, and Jade Martin, 25, of Las Vegas, Nev., were subsequently ejected from the vehicle. The rear passenger, Jennifer Petek, 37, of Suquamish, Wash., was trapped in the back seat.

Allen and Martin were pronounced deceased a short time later by medical personnel with Shoshone County Fire District No. 2. Petek was transported to Kootenai Health via Lifeflight helicopter with serious injuries. Michael Moore and his passenger, Jibril Moore, 26, of Rocky Mount, N.C., were not injured.

Allen and Martin were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, but Petek was.

The roadway was blocked for six hours as emergency crews cleared the scene of debris.

At this time, it is unknown whether Allen or Martin were driving the vehicle. It is also unknown as to the cause of the Nissan crossing lanes.

The investigation is ongoing and is being assisted by the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office.
