It’s Homecoming Day for students in the Wallace and Mullan school districts, which means for football game celebrations for their respective communities.

The Mullan/St. Regis Tiger team is pulling double duty this afternoon when they celebrate homecoming and senior night during their game against Lakeside.

Seniors Riley Trogden (Mullan) and AJ Jermyn (St. Regis) will be acknowledged prior to kickoff.

Coach Stetson Spooner is excited for the team’s first home game in Mullan, which is also bittersweet due to the finality that accompanies a senior night.

“Both of these guys are very coachable and lead the right way,” Spooner said. “AJ is new to us this year and has been a great asset to the team. Riley has been a joy to coach and watch grow up and develop into a really good football player.”

Spectators should be prepared for a lengthy affair as the coronation of Mullan’s homecoming queen and king will take place during halftime as well.

Mullan’s senior night acknowledgements will begin at 2:45 p.m. this afternoon at John Drager Field, followed immediately by kickoff against Lakeside.

Homecoming is a rite of passage for high school seniors, and like their neighbors in Mullan, Wallace Jr./Sr. High School felt that it was important for the kids to still get as much of the experience as possible.

While both schools canceled their dances, they are still keeping most of their normal homecoming traditions, including special dress up days, this morning’s powder puff game, and the coronation of homecoming royalty.

Wallace School District Athletic Director Bruce Bailey discussed how things like homecoming are capable of being small, but positive distractions for students and staff during times like these.

“Homecoming is a time when students and school staff can come together and show their school pride,” Bailey said. “It makes students feel that they are a part of something special and we can all use that during this time.”

Wallace’s homecoming game against Deary kicks off tonight at 7.
