Martha 'Marty' Lee Conger, 81

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Martha “Marty” Lee Conger, 81, of Kellogg, Idaho, passed away Oct. 4, 2020, at Mountain Valley of Cascadia in Kellogg. She was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Hot Springs, Mont. Marty was the daughter of Lewis and Opal (Russell) Cummings.

At a young age, Marty moved with her family to the Silver Valley and was one of eight children. She attended high school in Wallace and after graduation served as a Sister for the Catholic Church for nearly 10 years. While in convent, Marty attended Seattle University where she received a degree in education. Marty taught elementary school for the next 30 years before her retirement.

On Dec. 27, 1975, Marty married James Conger in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Together they raised four children.

Marty treasured her family and embraced every moment she spent with them. She made friends everywhere she went and touched many with her humor, compassion and generosity. She was also known for her brutally honest opinion and spot on advice.

Marty was a member of the Hay Seeds singing group who helped raise funds for various needs of the schools. She was also a member of the Senior Center, played Mrs. Clause during Christmas and was crowned the nursing home queen.

Marty’s favorite quote and words she lived by were “You create your own destiny.”

Marty is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 45 years, James Conger; three children, Char, Bob and Floyd; four sisters, Lola, Sandy, Kathy and Mary; and her brother, Albert. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, countless friends and her cat, Miss Kitty. Marty was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Terrence; her sister, Nancy and her brother, Ronald whom passed hours before her so he could lead her to heaven.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Kellogg. A rosary will take place one hour prior to the service. Following Mass, a luncheon will be held in the Church Fellowship Hall.
