Scarcello seeks conservation board re-election

Laurin Scarcello is seeking re-election as a supervisor of Kootenai County Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District.

Scarcello is a lifelong resident of Kootenai County, where he oversees his family’s 110-year-old ranch.

"I was asked by the board to fill this position two years ago," Scarcello said in a press release. "Since then, I’ve been impressed with the diversity of our board. We have specialists in forestry, erosion and stream bank maintenance, water quality and more. But mostly, we have a group that is healthy and fluent together."

Scarcello said he supports Stan Thornton and Linda Ely in their election bids.

He also said he has two concerns: "This position should be nonpartisan. That’s a no brainer. And with the current population growth, this is not business as usual anymore. We need to be especially attentive to the way we manage our land and waters, more than ever."

Scarcello said he's respectfully asking the public's support in this election.

"I’m very much involved in my community and serve on several other boards, where I’m an advocate of open space and rural interests," he said.

"I’m comfortable and effective as your current supervisor, and it would be an honor to continue to serve you for another term. Thank you for your consideration."
