Thornton seeks conservation re-election

Stan Thornton is seeking re-election for supervisor on the Kootenai- Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District board.

He has been on the board since 2017 and has been the secretary-treasurer for the past three years. Thornton has been a property owner in Kootenai County since 2001 and has lived with his wife, Janice, in the Blue Creek area since 2007. He is originally from Michigan, where he worked in the computer industry for 30 years.

As secretary-treasurer he has been responsible for creating the district’s budget as well as working with the Idaho Forest Owners Association in the maintenance of the district’s tree seedling program. He has also overseen management of the four Kootenai County boat inspection stations for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture.

“Since joining the board I have come to know and respect all the individuals associated with it," Thornton said in a press release. "It has been exciting to see all the new projects that have been in development over the past years. We are about to launch a restoration project on Wolf Lodge Creek that has been in development for two years. There have been a number of new projects implemented during the past year that I would like to see come to fruition.

"I would like to add that, through the efforts of the current board, the conservation district is in better shape both organizationally and financially than has been the case for the last 10 years.”

He also endorses the re-election of fellow candidates Linda Ely and Laurin Scarcello.
