After two years, welcome back Leadman!
KELLOGG — The 17th annual Leadman triathlon is next weekend and event organizers are excited to get back into the triathlon business after COVID-19 prevented it in 2020.
Leadman, presented by the Kellogg Rotary and Dave Smith Motors, is a thrilling locally themed adventure triathlon that consists of skiing, biking and running, and utilizes the slopes of Silver Mountain and much of the surrounding area in Kellogg.
“Leadman is a Rotary event and in the past 15 years, the Kellogg Rotary Club, along with its valued sponsors have raised over $140,000 to provide funding for community projects and nonprofit organizations,” said Gus Colburn, Silver Mountain marketing manager. “100 percent of the proceeds from Leadman go to local charities.”
This year, the event is on Saturday, April 17, and will begin on Kellogg Peak at 11 a.m., where competitors will kick the race off with a 1-mile ski/snowboard run where they will transition into the mountain bike portion of the competition before capping the race off with a 4-5 mile run to the finish line.
For spectators, the race has seen completion times as fast as 50 minutes with an average of right around two hours to get the last racers across the finish line.
Registration can be done online on Silver Mountain’s website and mailing it to the address on the form along with payment, although this year the event is limited to 250 participants.
The race will feature men's, women's and kid's solo categories, with the adult mens and womens being broken up into various age groups. There are also team categories for men, women and co-ed divisions.
Registration closes on Tuesday, April 14, at midnight.
Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no awards ceremony this year.
Results will be available after the race and individual awards will be mailed directly.
