MULLAN GOLF

  • 4/12

PINEHURST — In a fun tournament with a Ryder Cupstyle format, St. Maries rode a strong performance from Greyson Sands and Corbin Scheer to win the team title at the Mullan Invitational on Monday at Pinehurst Golf Course.

With boys, girls and “Jack and Jill” twosomes competing in best ball and scramble formats, the Lumberjack golfers piled up 33 points to win the event, taking back the cup from 2019 team champion Genesis Prep. The Panthers were second with 23 points, with Lakeside claiming third (20 points).

“In high school golf, you rarely get a chance to play with your teammates, so a few years ago we came up with this format, complete with a traveling trophy,” Mullan coach Paul Elston said. “Hopefully it’s a fun event… and something different than stroke play.”

Sands and Scheer shot an even-par 72 in the boys scramble format, while Clark Fork’s Cole Reuter and Carter Sanroman shot an 80 to win the boys best ball division.

St. Maries swept the girls divisions, with Hope Aasgaard and Garbrial Harold (best ball) and Jayden Martin and Trista Janssen (scramble) each posting a 105 to win their format group.

In the Jack and Jill scramble division, Genesis Prep’s C.J. Elliott and Morgan Bae (84) edged Lakeside’s Kenyon Spotted Horse and Tyshea Twoteeth (86).
