The Northern Rockies Incident Management Team 2 assumed command of the Character Complex as of Aug. 2 at 6 a.m. The Character Complex includes both the Deceitful and Pritchard Fires.

Deceitful Fire: The fire crossed a portion of Road 933 at the BPA powerline corridor the night before last, but firefighters were able to stop the forward spread. The fire continues to back down in several areas including: Montgomery Gulch Drainage, Landsdale Creek, Cinnabar Creek, and the 620 Road. The fire received some rain yesterday, but not enough to penetrate the tree canopy. The lower temperatures and higher relative humidity helped slow the fire spread yesterday. Firefighters continue to run sprinklers near structures and along the BPA powerline. The Structure Group is in place for initial attack if needed.

Pritchard Fire: The fire continues to burn within the containment lines. Firefighters continue to patrol and mop-up the fireline.

Weather and Smoke: The Complex experienced some, but not much, rain yesterday. Temperatures are expected to be 75-80 degrees. Winds are anticipated from the southwest this morning, and then coming from the west/northwest in the afternoon, with gusts up to 10-12 mph. Smoke will remain present. Evacuations and Closures: Area residents should remain alert for changing conditions and subsequent evacuation and closure changes. Contact the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office for the most up-to-date road closures and evacuation orders: 208-556-1114.
