Dunked for a good cause

WALLACE – Miners descended upon Wallace last weekend catch up with old friends and partake in some good times.

While some of these Miners may also be or have worked underground, all of them are alums of Wallace High School or Our Lady of Lourdes Academy.

Committee Co-Coordinator Marcy Hayman estimated that roughly 1,500 former WHS graduates made their way to town last weekend for the most recent All-Class Reunion. Once there, attendees were treated to the many events and amenities the town (and the Silver Valley) had to offer.

From graduating class designated hangouts and scavenger hunts to golf and live music- the city that they all at least once called home did not disappoint.

“It was great! We got lots of appreciation from a lot of people, so that was really nice. I think they all had a good time,” Hayman said.

Amid all the hustle and bustle of the reunion, the Friends of the Wallace City Pool also had a presence at the corner of Sixth and Cedar streets on Saturday. In an effort to raise even more money for the under-construction Wallace Pool, several notable locals volunteered to take the hot seat on the dunk tank (or in this Editor’s case, a cold and windy seat) where passersby could pay for the chance to send them into the drink.

Friends of the Wallace City Pool President Chrysa Malone explained that while the current total remodel of the pool is underway and paid for, the group is continuing to raise money for future upgrades such as swim programs or remodeling the pool house.

“The dunk tank was a huge success! We made over $5,000 from the tank and another $4,000 from our swag! I think that’s a pretty good intake for a weekend.”

If all goes according to plan, the Wallace Pool’s new look will be finished by the summer of 2022.

Speaking of funds raised for a good cause, Hayman believes the All-Class Reunion also raised roughly $9,000 for the Wallace All-Class Scholarship, which is awarded to WHS seniors.

Hayman added that the reunion committee estimates that the next reunion will occur in roughly five years.
