PINEHURST – The big 50+1 Anniversary of Pinehurst Days went off without a hitch last weekend as both adults and kids partook in the variety of events and activities that were offered.

The three day weekend festival started out semi-rough on Friday when a power pole fire near the vendor booths cut the geocaching event slightly short, but from then on, it was smooth sailing.

Family-friendly events were plentiful, as attendees enjoyed kids activities offered at Real Life Ministries Silver Valley such as an outdoor movie and water games.

In addition to the breakfast offered by the Pinehurst/Kingston Lions (the primary organizers of the event), a parade, car show, and golf tournament also got things moving Saturday morning.

What drew the biggest crowd of the weekend though was undoubtedly Pinehurst Days’ marquee event- the Burnouts.

Held on the dike road (Silver Valley Road) Saturday night, organizer Nick Elam says that the squealin’ and wheelin’ of the 20 cars that took to the street went over incredibly well with the crowd of approximately 1,500.

“It went great! Things were a lot more organized compared to last year (2019). We had a bigger area for the crowd, as last year’s wasn’t big enough,” He said. “The drivers were all responsible and willing to play the game. Same with the crowd, they were peaceful and everyone got along well.”

In addition to the roar of the engines and tires, spectators were also treated to colorful smoke that shot off of special tires that many vehicles came equipped with.

After everyone had had a chance to run, it was driver Rodney Cochrane that came out with both the Best Overall and Longest Burn awards.

Other awards included:

Nicest ride- Christopher Thompson

Worst ride- Andy MacArther Jared Kitchen

First popped tire- Kyle Calabretta

First double popped tire: Josh Fugate

Crowd Favorite: Kyle Gloyn

Most creative: James Weaver

Loudest pop: Emmit Howard

After winning, Cochrane would end up donating his prize money back to the event to help put on future shows.

Pinehurst Days wrapped Sunday Morning with another staple event- the kids BMX bike races.

“Pinehurst Days went really well,” said Bruce Rumpel, event organizer and P/K Lions Club member. “All in all, it ran smoothly and was well attended throughout.”
