KELLOGG — What better way to raise money for a good cause than taking your motorcycle for a day-ride with your friends?
That's exactly what the organizers of the upcoming "Serving our Military Mountain Ride & Rally" have in mind this Saturday when they host their third annual event.
Organizer Don Byrd explained that the goal of the event is to raise money for the Osburn VFW and the Wounded Warrior Project, two veteran service organizations that offer a variety of programs, services and events.
Starting at the Trail Motel in Kellogg, registration starts at 8 a.m. Aug. 28. By 10 a.m., riders will set off from Kellogg to the $50,000 Silver Dollar Bar in Haugen, Montana for lunch. Along the way, the bikers will ride through the communities of Osburn and Wallace to show support for the local VFW.
Byrd is hoping to get at least 50-75 participants this year.
After the riders return, the public is invited to County Lane River Resort in Kingston for live music at 5 p.m. and a professional comedy routine by Bag Lady Sue. While the public is invited to the comedy show, Byrd wants to remind attendees it will be adult level humor.
In that last Ride & Rally, the event raised $1,000 for WWP.
Byrd and his fellow organizers first got the idea for the Mountain Ride 4 years ago, when a man who was walking cross-country for veterans stayed at the Trail Motel.
"I had been looking to do a project for bikers in the area," Byrd said. "Once I heard this guy's story, I had done my research on the Wounded Warrior Project … and decided that this is where I was going to go with this."
